There’s an old saying, a put-down usually hurled at someone who’s deemed a wannabe or a poser: “All hat and no horse.” The phrase is not one that would ever be directed at rising country star Denny Strickland; not only is he firmly in control of a burgeoning career, he literally has the hat and the horses and a lot more.

Not one to ‘cowboy up’ just to look the part on stage, Strickland is actually a former American Quarter Horse champion. “I participated in horse shows all my life, so I traveled a lot just like we’re doing now,” the singer said in a statement issued by his publicist. “I was on a bus going to the different shows. So today, when I’m traveling on the road, it feels like I’m going home. I’m doing something I’m truly passionate about with the music, and it’s got my full attention.”
The appreciation that Strickland got in the show ring with the horses has no doubt given him a little preparation for the all-out adoration he’s about to garner with his new single and video, “Swerve On.” The song is about an evening of drinking and appreciating females, with lyrics that are fun to sing along to and a loping rhythm that’s guaranteed to get boots and high heels onto the dance floor.
Pretty much a sure-fire hit, Strickland knows he’s got something special with “Swerve On” and he’s savoring it, but he also knows the song is just the beginning. “I’ve got a long ways to go; I’m just starting to get my feet wet a bit,” Denny says. “I’m having the time of my life.”
