“Singer Denny Strickland Goes Wild with Get A Grip”
by Sandy Zimmerman August 17, 2016
If you enjoy an out-of-the-box, modernized version of country music,
hold on to your hat and watch Denny Strickland’s latest “Get A Grip” lyric music video.
Denny dares to take country music to new levels by adding blends of rock and pop music
with a display of flashing images each timed to the musical beat. While Denny sings, these images begin to attract your attention until you are completely absorbed in the song.
With the combination of Denny’s baritone voice, the dramatic images and the haunting beat, you are experiencing a different style of country music. Thanks to Buz-Videos, producer of the unique special effects and song writer Bill DiLuigi (Richie McDonald, Shaun Murphy), Troy Johnson (Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw) and Henry Jack Williams (Little River Band, Uriah Heep).
“Get A Grip” lyrics: Hey pretty girl I’m on my way
slow rolling out the gate
baby you smell like honeysuckle
that little low riding buckle’s sweet on the
tight fitting jeans on ya
walking inside clubs insane
all aboard crazy train
is coming better get a grip on to something.
I was impressed after first reviewing Denny Strickland at the time his song “”How Far You Wanna’ Go.” was released. “Get Over It” is a colorful, exciting switch showing he adapts to different styles of music.
Denny’s early career was guided by The Statler Brothers’ longtime manager (and Bass player for Johnny Cash), Marshall Grant. Strickland soon found himself sharing the stage with legends Kris Kristofferson, Rosanne Cash and George Jones. With Grant’s passing in 2011, he took a brief hiatus; regrouping and refocusing his efforts. He reignited his music career with two MusicRow CountryBreakout™ Chart hits: “Swerve On” and “How Far You Wanna’ Go.” He has hosted the internationally-syndicated television show Country Fix and opened for Maddie & Tae, Jamey Johnson, The Kentucky Headhunters and 3 Doors Down. Denny is an accomplished guitarist, keyboardist and America Quarter Horse Association horseman.
“Get A Grip” follows two hit singles on the MusicRow Country Breakout ™ Chart: the full throttle “Swerve On” and the suggestive “How Far You Wanna Go.” Denny’s sultry acoustic cover of Conway Twitty’s “I’d Love To Lay You Down” earned him a staggering four-week #1 run on the Hotdisc international chart. Strickland performs across the U.S. and has enjoyed sold-out shows during CMA Music Festival week and opened for many of today’s biggest stars (Maddie & Tae, Jamey Johnson, 3 Doors Down, The Kentucky Headhunters).
